■ Development Notes

At first, we were developing a traditional sacoche bag. Traditional sacoches are simple in design and versatile enough to hold anything, but we felt they had drawbacks, such as making it difficult to organize belongings due to their simple design and causing the bag to flap around.

While walking the PCT, most hikers were wearing fanny packs or waist packs, and I was curious about how they felt to use and how comfortable they were to use while hiking. After returning home, I researched fanny packs from various manufacturers and considered my design.
After considering versatility and ease of use, we found that the standard shape was the easiest to pack and use.

My father worked at a liquor store and used fanny packs for many years, so I interviewed him about his impressions of the size and how to use it, and came up with a fanny pack that can be used both at the liquor store and on hikes.
From there, we conducted repeated field tests for outdoor use in pursuit of a classic fanny pack that was easy to use and functional.

- Not too big, not too small.
- It can be folded when not in use.
- It can hold more luggage than it looks like it can.
- The map fits to the side.
- Fits a compact camera and interchangeable lenses.
- The zipper opens wide.
- As a liquor store, bills and beer coupons can be inserted without being folded.

■ Design concept

Just like the backpack concept and design method, 3D CAD was used extensively to create three-dimensional patterns. The center of gravity balance and ease of packing were also made possible thanks to 3D CAD.

We also combine three or more types of fabric, using different materials in areas where lightweight is needed and areas where durability is needed.

The front is made of tear-resistant Dyneema ripstop nylon, the sides are made of X-Pac which acts as a strong frame, the interior is made of flexible and colorful Robic nylon, and the sides of the body are made of breathable and cushioned double Russell nylon.

All of these fabrics have passed field tests and laboratory tests. They are made with jungle PU, which is resistant to hydrolysis, and can be used for a long time even in Japan's hot and humid environment.

■Main body First of all, we paid particular attention to the angle at which the zipper opens.

The zipper is angled so that it appears vertical when wrapped around the stomach, allowing for smooth movement. The zipper extends to both ends, ensuring a large opening.
The zipper pulls are individually made using a 3D printer.

There is a compartment on the inside of the bag to put a map in. If you don't put a map in it, you can put a tenugui or something inside to use as a cushion.

The thickness of the main body is large enough to fit a compact camera such as the RICOH GR3 and small interchangeable lenses.

The interior fabric is made of 100D yellow ROBIC nylon, which increases visibility when illuminated by the yellow color.

■ Front pocket

It is designed as a pocket for storing small items, keys, etc. The front pocket has a high gusset so that it will not collapse even if the main body is full.

There is a key strap inside to hold your keys.

It is designed to be thick enough to hold keys, a bifold wallet, earphones, etc.

■Back

Like the back of the backpack, it is made of breathable and cushioned double Russell mesh, and has a pocket on the top for storing a smartphone.

There are also belt holes on both sides, so you can thread your favorite backpack straps or belts through them.

■ Hooks and belts

There are detachable wire gate buckles on both sides. These buckles make it easy to attach and detach the belt. Furthermore, the wire gate buckles allow it to be attached to various places such as backpacks.

It can also be attached to the waist of a backpack by using additional parts.
