With a new ovalized, contoured shaft, a low-profile, easy-to-tread blade, and a variety of hollowed-out handle options, BCA shovels are stronger, lighter, and easier to store than ever before.
This new lineup is inspired by the legendary D-2EXT "Dozer" excavator, so popular amongst dedicated BCA users that we named the entire new lineup after it.
BCA originally developed the first avalanche shovel with a non-round shaft to prevent breakage during mountain climbing. The innovative oval design adds recessed sections on both sides for added strength without adding weight. The expandable shaft features a "variable offset" space between the inner and outer walls to prevent ice buildup and ensure reliable shaft deployment.

In hard, thick snow or deep burials, it can be difficult to penetrate avalanche debris with a shovel. The flat "stomp edge" on the top of the blade and heat-treated 6061 aluminum allow you to penetrate the snow simply by applying your body weight. A self-coupling spring pin at the blade-to-shaft connection allows for faster, hands-free assembly.

BCA shovel blades lay flat in your pack with no protruding hardware or connections, leaving more space for other backcountry essentials (and luxuries). The front third of every blade features a smooth surface, allowing for clean walls in snow pit tests. All BCA extendable shovels are designed to meet UIAA standards for avalanche rescue shovels.
