The Classic was first developed in 1974 at the suggestion of Sir Chris Brasher, an Olympic athlete and future founder of the London Marathon. At a time when heavy canvas packs were the norm, Brasher recognized that a pack's weight was essential to improving its functionality. The Classic was the first backpack in history to focus on lightweight design. It was a well-balanced backpack, with excellent weight, easy access while running, comfort at any speed, and multi-functional components.
