Thought and Creation

What's this? The striking barrel shape allows the padding to expand without straining your knees, even when you sit cross-legged. This unique skirt is perfect for staying warm during breaks on day trips or relaxing overnight. The waistband is deep to prevent it from slipping down when you sit down, and the through pockets on both sides not only allow you to access the pockets in your pants underneath, but also double as hand warmers. Down pants are often worn while sitting, so the knees and waist tend to strain, crushing the down and leaving you feeling cold in those areas. However, the Agra Skirt keeps your legs and hips warm whether you're sitting or standing.

Comfort

After wearing the Agulhas Skirt for a while, your body heat will warm the air inside. Thanks to its unique barrel-shaped design, this warm air is trapped inside the skirt without escaping. The highly breathable PERTEX QUANTUM AIR lining prevents condensation from forming on the lining, even when you're sweating. This effectively transfers sweat to the highly absorbent wool padding. The sweat absorbed by the padding then turns into water vapor and is released to the outside through the outer fabric. The water-repellent lining keeps you dry and comfortable even when sweat penetrates.

Dressing

If you put the agra skirt over your head and put your arms through the through pockets, you can use it as a very warm vest that covers your waist. This is a very effective way to wear it, and it may be more convenient if you want to move around the hammock. If you are a small person, you can sit in a "seiza" position and wrap yourself completely in the agra skirt to keep your whole body warm.

Material features

The outer fabric, PERTEX QUATUM, is a 15dn x 15dn ripstop nylon that is windproof, water-repellent, and quick-drying. The back of the fabric is treated to prevent the padding from coming out. It is light and soft, yet strong enough to be used as an outer layer.

The PERTEX QUATUM AIR lining is a 20dn x 20dn mini-ripstop nylon with a breathability of 25.5cm³/cm²/s (approximately 25 times that of a regular windbreaker). This effectively transfers water vapor from sweat to the padding. It is an essential material for creating an environment that doesn't feel stuffy or wet even when worn while sweating. It also has excellent water repellency, so even if sweat penetrates, you won't get soaked. Its extremely light and soft texture allows you to feel the warmth and softness of the padding even more.

The German-made LAVALAN used on the skin side of the padding is a sheet-like wool batting made by thermally bonding European virgin wool grown in stress-free environments with corn-derived polylactic acid. Its excellent bulk and moisture-regulating properties (moisture absorption and release) make it safe to use even in humid environments. The intertwining of wool fibers creates a layer of countless tiny air pockets that trap body heat, providing excellent insulation.

Wool is both water-repellent and moisture-absorbent. The cuticle, which covers the outside of wool fibers like scales, is water-repellent and repels water. On the other hand, the very small holes inside wool fibers are moisture-absorbent, and can absorb up to 36% of wool's own weight in water vapor when dry. These contradictory functions make wool less susceptible to moisture even in humid environments, allowing it to maintain its natural heat-retaining properties.

Packing Tips

The Agra Skirt will help your backpack maintain a beautiful shape if you pack it at the end of your packing, filling in any gaps. For this reason, the Agra Skirt does not come with a storage bag.

Testimonials

Back when I used to camp in the snowy mountains, I would naturally wear down pants to keep out the cold, but I realized that I spent most of my time sitting except when sleeping. When I sit in a tent, the down around my knees and hips gets crushed, making me feel cold. This doesn't make the most of the down's insulating properties. So I wondered if it would be possible to make pants that don't cause cold spots when sitting, i.e., don't strain your knees or hips even when you sit cross-legged. No, it turned out that a skirt would reduce cold spots, and I thought it would be more relaxing to wear them, as I could take them off and put them on even with my shoes on, so I came up with this design. Unfortunately, since I created the Agra skirt, I haven't had a chance to wear down pants anymore.

Usage notes

The Ugly Skirt is intended for use when staying at a hammock point, and is designed for walking around the hammock or to go to the toilet. It should not be used on hiking trails, as it may be dangerous to not take a sufficient stride length or get caught on uneven surfaces. The highly breathable lining may cause some padding to come out.
