Thought and Creation

Yohiyami is a sweat-wicking insulation designed for use when you're not yet fully recovered from a day of skiing. Its highly breathable lining and moisture-wicking wool padding prevent internal condensation and residual wetness, even when worn immediately after skiing. In contrast, most insulations worn when you're not fully recovered from a day of skiing use highly insulating materials for both the outer and inner lining to block wind and prevent the padding from escaping. This creates the problem of sweat condensing when worn while sweating. While insulation is meant to keep the body warm, this actually poses a major paradox. This is where Yohiyami differs from standard insulation: two layers of 40g/m² padding with different properties are used to help withstand cold nights.

Comfort

Yohiyami uses highly breathable PERTEX QUANTUM AIR for the lining, which allows sweat to be efficiently transferred to the highly absorbent wool padding without condensation even when worn while sweating. The sweat absorbed by the padding then turns into water vapor and is released to the outside through the outer fabric. The water-repellent lining keeps you dry and comfortable even when sweat penetrates.

Dressing

The unique atmosphere of the Yohiyami can be achieved by pairing it with a one-of-a-kind agra skirt for a clay figurine style. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the perfect winter shinogu outfit. Also, to make the most of the Yohiyami's function of not trapping sweat, it is important to layer warm, breathable clothing such as wool or fleece between the undergarment and the Yohiyami, rather than layering clothing with low breathability (i.e., clothing that does not allow sweat to pass through).

Large capacity pocket for warmth

Keep your smartphone, mobile battery, spare batteries, lighter, wet gloves that will freeze if left outside, socks, insoles, and other items warm in the large-capacity pockets that are open on both sides. This is very important for getting through the cold nights and for being in top condition for your next day.

Material features

The outer fabric, PERTEX QUATUM, is a 15dn x 15dn ripstop nylon that is windproof, water-repellent, and quick-drying. The back of the fabric is treated to prevent the padding from coming out. It is light and soft, yet strong enough to be used as an outer layer.

The PERTEX QUATUM AIR lining is a 20dn x 20dn mini-ripstop nylon with a breathability of 25.5cm³/cm²/s (approximately 25 times that of a regular windbreaker). This effectively transfers water vapor from sweat to the padding. It is an essential material for creating an environment that doesn't feel stuffy or wet even when worn while sweating. It also has excellent water repellency, so even if sweat penetrates, you won't get soaked. Its extremely light and soft texture allows you to feel the warmth and softness of the padding even more.

The German-made LAVALAN used on the skin side of the padding is a sheet-like wool batting made by thermally bonding European virgin wool grown in stress-free environments with corn-derived polylactic acid. Its excellent bulk and moisture-regulating properties (moisture absorption and release) make it safe to use even in humid environments. The intertwining of wool fibers creates a layer of countless tiny air pockets that trap body heat, providing excellent insulation.

Wool is both water-repellent and moisture-absorbent. The cuticle, which covers the outside of wool fibers like scales, is water-repellent and repels water. On the other hand, the very small holes inside wool fibers are moisture-absorbent, and can absorb up to 36% of wool's own weight in water vapor when dry. These contradictory functions make wool less susceptible to moisture even in humid environments, allowing it to maintain its natural heat-retaining properties.

LAVALAN is the perfect material for this Yohiyami.

Packing Tips

Please pack Yohiyami into the gaps in your backpack at the end of packing. This will make the packing look neater. For this reason, Yohiyami does not come with a storage bag.

Testimonials

One winter, while snogging, my base layer was completely soaked with sweat when I reached the hammock spot. Before my body got cold, I put on my down jacket to ward off the cold and rested for just under three hours. It was time to pack up, so I took off my down jacket, only to find my base layer still wet. My body heat had kept the inside of my down jacket warm, so I didn't feel cold during my rest, but my sweat hadn't gone anywhere and had soaked the inside of my down jacket. Later, after surviving with my wet base layer, when I tried to put my down jacket back on, the inside was still wet, making me feel very cold. This experience led to the development of Yohiyami, which absorbs sweat and dries it for me. While it might be possible to just bring a change of clothes, I feel that solving the sweat problem through the way I dress is the best way to go.
