AIR FLAKE was developed by analyzing the characteristics and shape of eiderdown feathers found in Arctic eider ducks. Eiderdown, known as the jewel of feathers, is made up of extremely fine barbs radiating from a small, soft core. Each barb intertwines with the others to form a fluffy, resilient fluff ball. It has a resilient volume that allows for the measurement of fill power, just like natural down.

AIR FLAKE has a single structure similar to down balls, so it does not felt and even if it gets wet, it returns to its original fluffiness when it dries, regaining its original heat-retaining properties. It is also highly washable, retaining almost no volume even after repeated washing, and is odorless for comfortable use. It is a next-generation material that combines the unique properties of natural down and synthetic cotton.

With the cooperation of a material manufacturer, we were able to use the newly developed 850FP Air Flake material instead of the conventional 750FP Air Flake. Because the bottom half of the sleeping bag collapses, we reduced the amount of cotton by 25% compared to the top half to make it lighter.

[Evolution of non-fluorine-based water-repellent finishes]
The surface fabric is made of Greenbeads, a non-fluorine based ultra-water repellent. Conventional non-fluorine based water repellents have the disadvantage of being slightly less effective and durable than fluorine based water repellents.
We had to choose between performance and environmental friendliness, but Greenbeads is a non-fluorine-based product that offers water-repellent properties that far exceed those of C6 fluorine-based products.

Since it is something you will use in the mountains, you will want it to be reused, and if it is a synthetic cotton sleeping bag, you can easily wash it at home, so you will also want a durable water-repellent surface.
The non-fluorine Greenbeads water repellent finish has a wash durability of 80 points (level 3) after 100 washes, and is twice as abrasion resistant as C6 water repellent. It's also eco-friendly, using only BSSL (Bluesign System Substance List) compliant chemicals.

[The importance of using recycled materials]
In the "life cycle of clothing," from raw material procurement to disposal after wear, the raw material procurement process accounts for the largest amount of CO2 emissions, accounting for approximately 50% of the total. In other words, reducing CO2 emissions during raw material procurement will significantly reduce the environmental impact of the "life cycle of clothing." In the case of pre-consumer recycled nylon (*), there are examples where CO2 emissions have been reduced by as much as 75%, and we believe that using recycled materials as much as possible and choosing and wearing clothing made from such materials is an important action.

*Pre-consumer recycled nylon:
This product is made by recycling nylon cotton waste generated during the manufacture of nylon yarn, which has traditionally been incinerated, and regenerating it into nylon yarn and fabric.
