Owner Philip Curry founded the life vest brand Lotus Designs in 1994, sold the rights to Patagonia in 1999, and then launched ASTRAL in Asheville, North Carolina in 2002.
The company continues to bring groundbreaking products to the paddle sports market, such as being the first to use quick-drying Cordura in its Life Vest.
In 2012, the brand's 10th anniversary, it released its first footwear collection.
I aim to create unique shoes that can be truly used for life near water or on rocks, shoes that will be useful in dangerous places as an active kayaker, and that can also be worn for work or walks.
