Hybrid yarn evolved for mountain climbing
Yak wool is wrapped around nylon thread, improving durability while maintaining the warmth and soft feel of yak wool.
By making the yarn stronger, we were able to change the knitting pattern to a border mesh, which dramatically improved breathability.
The YAK BREEZE has been created to be easier to use and more suitable for mountain climbing.
Compared to the YAK PULLOVER, which is made from 100% yak wool, the fabric is slightly thinner.
It has just the right amount of warmth and breathability for a light hike, and can also be used as a warm layer at the tent site.
We also recommend putting on the hood and crawling into your sleeping bag for a warm and comfortable sleep.
Unlike sheep, which have undergone many breeding improvements since the Industrial Revolution, yaks are primitive bovine animals that originated in Tibet.
Yaks live year-round in alpine grasslands at altitudes of 3,000-6,000 meters in places like Tibet and Nepal, and in winter they are active just below the snow line. Yaks are known for their excellent cold tolerance. To survive the long winter, they grow downy hair as winter approaches and shed it in the spring.
Nomads collect these and wash them to produce high-quality raw materials. Nowadays, like cashmere, they are carefully combed by hand. This method is ethical because, unlike sheep, the wool is not sheared from the entire body and there is no need for mulesing.
Yak down can be harvested every year, but only about 100g-300g can be obtained from one adult yak. Compared to sheep's wool, which weighs about 4kg, down is extremely rare. The Tibetan yak hair used by STATIC is harvested at a rate of approximately 100g from each yak.
We limit the amount we collect so as not to over-harvest and cause stress to the yaks.
Mulezing is the practice of removing the skin and flesh from the genitals of a lamb to prevent maggot infestation.
- A hybrid fiber made from synthetic fiber and yak wool
- Border weave for high breathability
- Tight fitting balaclava hood
- It has a thumb hole so it can also be used as a simple glove.
- Drop tail to prevent back exposure when bending over
- Made from yak hair that lives at altitudes of over 4000m
- Yak hair is very thin, with a diameter of less than 20 microns and a length of about 3.5-4.5 cm. Compared to sheep's wool, it does not have the scales on the surface of the hair that cause shrinkage, so it does not require shrink-proofing.
- 30% more insulating than wool, almost as good as cashmere
- It is 30% more breathable than cashmere and doesn't get stuffy.
- Extremely soft and gentle to the touch
- High elasticity and wrinkle resistance
- Material: 80% yak wool, 20% nylon
- Weight: 250g (size M)
- Fit: Athletic
- Fiber/Fabric Country of Origin: China
- Country of Manufacture: China
Please enjoy your knitwear by following the correct care instructions so that it will last a long time.
Dry cleaning is recommended.
Wearing it for a long time may cause it to lose its shape, so please let it rest after wearing it for a day.
After wearing, brush off any dust or debris with a soft brush to straighten the fur, then dry in the shade in a well-ventilated area. (Hanging for a long period of time may cause the shape to become distorted, so please dry flat as much as possible.)
During the off-season, fill with insect repellent and store folded in a well-ventilated place.
- Due to the softness of the fabric, fur may adhere to other clothing due to wear and tear.
- Pilling occurs due to wear and tear during use and cleaning. If pilling occurs, please remove the pills carefully one by one without pulling them to avoid cutting the fabric.
- When wearing the garment, please be careful not to let accessories (watches, buttons, zippers) get caught in the knitted fabric of the garment.
- If the thread gets caught and comes out, do not cut it, but use a thin stick to push the thread back inside the product (we recommend using a fray repair needle).
- It is fine to wear it with normal clothing, but please be aware that if you wear it with something with a thick pile, such as a blanket, the pile may get tangled and pull against each other, which may cause the yak fibers to come off.
- In the off-season, fill with insect repellent and store in a well-ventilated place.
- Yak down is combed and collected before it falls to the ground.
- As it is not treated with chlorine resin, which is commonly used on wool, it does not emit chlorine organic compounds and does not burden the environment.
- It is highly biodegradable because it does not have the typical shrink-proof resin coating.
- Undyed Color uses the natural color of yak hair without dyeing, which has many benefits, such as no CO2 emissions during dyeing, no chemical dyes, and no water.
- Non-mulesing: Since the wool used is naturally shed, there is no need to mulege like with sheep, making it gentler on the animals.
- We also use eco-friendly labels.
